Roan Harvey and Ella Montesa

Editorial note:

This work has been created in the context of the Bauhaus Open Studios programme with students from Cornell College of Human Ecology’s Department of Human Centered Design (studio lead: Catherine Kueffer Blumenkamp) in spring 2024. Students were asked to select an object from CF+TC, create a touchboard as in the preliminary course at the Bauhaus and then develop their own design based on this material analysis.

Roan Harvey and Ella Montesa—Written, inspiration images and final projects

This dress was a collaborative project inspired by pieces drawn from the Cornell Fashion and Textile Collection. We both wanted to make a gown and were drawn light colors and lace. You can see this inspiration in our final piece, a two piece dress. The dress features a white strapless bodice with a peachy lace drop waist tiered skirt and a separate white lace shawl with a high neck. As far as closures there is an invisible zipper in the back of the dress with a keyhole opening and button at the top. The keyhole opening was a design choice in order to add a more interesting shape into the otherwise simple bodice piece. This project was a really fun collaboration, you can see both of our personal aesthetics portrayed in the piece and they both mesh well together to form a beautiful creation.
